A country in three parts, Peru moves from dry desert along its Pacific coast, through the high Andes, to the tropical jungle of the Amazon Basin.
SAMS has worked there since the early 1970s and focuses on the cities of Lima and Arequipa, especially their poorer areas which include the pueblos jóvenes, ‘young towns’ where people have moved from rural areas in search of better things. But the needs of the people of the high, remote Colca Canyon are also now very much in the frame. |
