The biggest country in South America, Brazil has one of the largest economies in the world yet nearly a quarter of its vast population live in poverty, many of these in urban slums known as favelas. Its biggest city, São Paulo, has over 11 million people, with Rio de Janeiro home to 6 million.
SAMS’ work began in the 1970s in the third largest city, Salvador, and has influenced a number of areas of the country and featured a range of holistic ministries. The focus is now in the north-east. |
