Bolivia
The poorest country in South America (and second poorest in Latin America after Haiti), Bolivia has a rich mix of both landscape and people, its mountains, plateaux and plains being home to a majority indigenous population and a large minority of mestizos and criollos.

SAMS’ founder Allen Gardiner failed to reach Bolivia’s Indians of the Chaco in the 1840s and a promising work 80 years later was curtailed by the appalling Chaco War. But finally in the 1980s an urban work took root among the non-indigenous people.
