Get Supported
It’s a good idea to get your local church in on the action right at the start. Hopefully some people in your church already know you are interested in doing a short term experience. As well as money and prayer providers, your local church is the place where you will prepare for your trip. Through worship and interaction you need to let the body build you up. They need to know as much as they can about what you’ll be doing so that they can relate to it and catch the enthusiasm.
Before you go and when you return, you need to do something fairly up front in church about it all. Discuss with your church leaders the best way to do this, it may be a presentation, or an interview, or perhaps something a bit more interesting like getting the congregation to do something artistic, discuss an issue concerning the place you are going. With a little thought and time you can really make an impact in your church. Let’s face it, so many interviews and presentations are as dull as ditch water. Buck the trend. What you’ll be doing is exciting and your church can learn a lot from it.
