SAMS How to Apply - SAMS Youth

How to Apply

As an individual

  1. Download the application form and return it to us.
  2. We will invite applicants to come to an interview and take up references.
  3. If applicants are accepted, they will be contacted and given lots of advice in order to raise funds, get all the right health inoculations, learn the language (some basics at least!) and get their church involved.
  4. We match applicants into teams who can work together well and we will appoint team leaders who have experience of mission or of South America.
  5. Pray. We are absolutely dependent on God to be at work and to ensure that the teams are able to serve him effectively. You have to be committed to that process of prayer too.
  6. Orientation conference – when the teams get to know each other, and find out more about their project, and other preparations. We will sort out all the practical details, including booking flights, insurance and organising the itinerary for your trip. Teams will be given all the information they need.
  7. We ask that you pay for the cost of your trip in full before your departure.
  8. Latino Experience!
  9. Debrief conference – which will help you reflect on your experiences and equip you to share and use them positively. It’s also a chance for you to tell us what you’ve thought about the whole process so that we can carry on making improvements to the programme.

As a youth worker / group leader

  1. Contact the SAMS Youth (and Volunteer) Coordinator.
  2. Meet with SAMS to discuss your groups age, aims, interests etc.
  3. We then search for projects which will match well with your group.
  4. We will then work with you to make all the preparations (team members applications, child protection issues, flights, insurance, consent for under 18’s, risk assessment, project details etc) and inform your group of everything they need to know (health, fundraising, language).
  5. Pray. We are absolutely dependent on God to be at work and to that the teams are able to serve him effectively. You have to be committed to that process of prayer too.
  6. Orientation conference – when teams will start to work together and find out more about their project, and other preparations.
